Tinubu laying solid foundation for Nigeria’s economic recovery – Senator Eze

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and Senator representing Ebonyi Central, Ken Eze, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for laying a solid foundation for Nigeria’s economic recovery and infrastructure development in its first two years.

Speaking with journalists in Abakaliki at the weekend, Eze said the administration inherited a nation plagued by decades-long systemic decay, economic hardship, and insecurity, but has taken bold steps to reposition the country.

“People forget that the rot didn’t start in two years. It’s a degeneration that began decades ago. Mr. President met a country in distress and has laid a solid foundation to fix the economy,” Eze said.

The Senator highlighted key reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, describing it as a difficult but necessary decision that prevented economic collapse.

He said savings from the subsidy removal have enabled federal, state, and local governments to fund critical infrastructure and increase workers’ salaries.

“The removal of the subsidy created fiscal space. States and local governments now receive four to five times what they used to. You can see legacy projects — roads, railways, coastal highways — being funded and commissioned. These were impossible under previous administrations,” he stated.

Eze commended Tinubu’s appointment of competent ministers, especially in Works and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who he said are driving visible infrastructural progress.

“In Abuja today, you’ll be proud to be Nigerian. The roads and projects across the FCT show we now have people who know what they’re doing. It’s no longer about political patronage,” he added.

On food insecurity and inflation, Eze blamed sabotage by some citizens who hoard subsidized goods and smuggle food across borders, urging greater patriotism and cooperation with government policies.

He described the 10th Senate as a “corrective Senate” focused on legislative oversight and pro-people reforms, including a new tax bill to eliminate double taxation.

“People think we don’t challenge the executive, but governance isn’t about unnecessary confrontation. The President respects the separation of powers and listens to the National Assembly,” he said.

Eze described himself as “the choice of the people,” who was drafted into politics and remains focused on serving with integrity.

He called on all Nigerians to contribute positively to national development, emphasising that governance is a collective responsibility.
