The names of three officers who discharged their firearms in a shooting that killed a 24-year-old city man were revealed Tuesday night.
The incident took place in the early morning of Dec. 6 and resulted in the death of Nickenley Turenne.
The officers were Brandon Baliko, Andre Chan and Devin Lambert, who worked for the department for one year, one-and-a-half years and two years, respectively.
“The Manchester Police Department and the officers involved are cooperating with the investigation, and the officers’ voluntary interviews were completed late this afternoon,” the release said.
An autopsy performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined Turenne’s cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death was homicide.
At 4:43 a.m. on Dec. 6, Manchester Police responded to the area of South Mammoth Road near the Green Acres Elementary School for a report of a suspicious vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers reported finding a man sleeping in the driver’s seat and a woman asleep in the passenger seat.
“When awoken, the male driver fled at a high rate of speed, and the police pursued the vehicle until it crashed,” the Attorney General’s Office said in a news release.
“A foot pursuit with the male driver followed, and in a subsequent encounter with police in the area of 293 South Mammoth Road, three Manchester Police Officers fired their duty pistols at the male, who was shot. Life saving measures were attempted and the male was transported to the hospital where he later died.”
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under active investigation.
A report of whether the officer’s use of deadly force was justified will be released once the investigation is complete.
