Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank has been asked about Liverpool’s vice-captain Andy Robertson after the clubs started transfer talks this week.
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank refused to comment on Liverpool player Andy Robertson after the two clubs entered transfer talks. As the ECHO reported on Friday morning, Spurs have approached the Premier League champions regarding the potential acquisition of the left-back months before his contract is due to expire.
Talks are at a preliminary stage and Liverpool have not reached a decision to sell Robertson, 31, this month or delay a conclusion to that saga later this year. Following the weekend’s Premier League action, Spurs boss Frank faced on the matter for the first time.
After his side rescued a 2-2 draw away to Burnley, the Danish head coach was asked directly whether the Reds’ No.26 would have strengthened his side defensively in a fixture they came close to losing.
“Just on that one, in general you don’t know me that well, I don’t speak about players that are not in the club, except Ronaldo and Messi,” Frank responded.
“He went on: “So, that’s no comment.”
Robertson has yet to reach a final verdict on his future, too, having recently disclosed that contract extension discussions had commenced with Liverpool chiefs.
He said: “We’ll see what happens. We’ve had chats now which will remain private.
“I’ve spoken to them and we’ll see what happens.
“Would I like to stay? Yes, but it’s a difficult question to ask.
“I’ve got five months left and we need to see the option to stay or if there’s options to go and things like that.
“I’ll sit down with my family and decide. After a stressful summer, I’m just trying to enjoy being a part of it, and being a Liverpool player.

“I wanted to qualify for the World Cup and, thankfully, we’ve managed to do that.
“I need to see what myself and my family wants moving forward.”
The full-back has frequently found himself amongst the substitutes this season under Arne Slot, who has favoured Milos Kerkez since his £40m summer arrival from Bournemouth.
That pattern continued on Saturday following Spurs’ 2-2 draw at Turf Moor, with Kerkez picked in the starting XI to face his former employers Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
However, the Hungarian was removed and Robertson thrown into the action after the half-time interval – with the Reds trailing 2-1.
The Scotland international was then almost part of a daring fight back as Dominik Szoboszlai equalised late on, but it was in vain as the hosts grabbed a winner deep into stoppage time.
