This Morning fans said they ‘have no idea’ after Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley issued an apology over their interview with Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis.
The Hollywood legend appeared on Tuesday morning’s (November 25) edition of the ITV talk show to promote her new movie Ella McCay. Starring Sex Education’s Ella McKay, the film marks director James L. Brooks’ first movie in 15 years.
During the interview, Jamie ruled out making a third Freaky Friday movie following the success of her and Lindsay Lohan’s 2025 sequel to the body swap comedy. According to the actress, the sequel’s younger stars would need to be at least 15 years older for it to work.
With the interview going along as normal, things took a turn when Jamie recalled missing out on missing the late Princess Diana while making A Fish Called Wanda sequel Fierce Creatures in 1997.
“We were told Diana and the children were coming to visit the set, but we were way way out in the middle of nowhere. They never showed up and finally we took a break. I had to take a car and drive all the way back to the trailer to use the rest room.
“While I was in there, I got a knock on the door saying ‘Princess Diana is here’. By the time I got back out to the set, she was walking away. I wasn’t going to chase after this woman and say ‘I really think you’re amazing’. I wrote her a letter and sent it over to Kensington Palace saying ‘I’m so sorry I missed you, nature called’. I told her I admired her and all the work she did,” she said.
Beginning to tear up as she spoke about Princess Diana, Jamie struggled to get her words out as she brought up the United States President Donald Trump.
“Extraordinary person. What an example. Look at where I live and look at the example of the people leading my country. The hatred that they spew, the way they treat people and talk about people. Look at the way she lived her life and Catherine seems to be carrying on all those beautiful things. Incorporating grace, dignity, kindness and love that Diana had.
“I think that his [President Trump] wagging a finger at a woman and calling her piggy has woken us up to an unacceptable behaviour that we cannot have as the legacy of the United States of America. Regardless of the fact he’s a convicted person, that’s funny that the straw that broke the camel’s back you never expect. I think that unhinged moment of his abide and vile behaviour is going to be his undoing.
“I live in hope. I’m in a beautiful place. I have family, I’m sober, I have creativity and freedom. Freedom is all we want. Freedom to have the minds we have, the jobs we have and the community we work with. It’s a beautiful time.”
Thanking Jamie for her time, Ben teased that former I’m A Celebrity winner Sam Thompson would be appearing after the break. Asked if she would go into the jungle, Jamie broke a big rule as she told Ben ‘no, f*** that’ and immediately covered her mouth.
Returning from the ad break, Cat said the show was ‘very sorry for Jamie Lee Curtis’ language’. Ben continued: “As we went into the break I did ask her if she’d go into the jungle and she was pretty adamant in an Oscar winner way that she wasn’t.
“Apologies if anyone is offended for the language she used. It felt like it’s official she’s not going in. It’s a no to going into the jungle.”
