The Traitors boss shares how the celebrity edition adds “pressure” on the civilian series

The Celebrity Traitors became the biggest title of 2025 across the UK at 7 days earlier this year, and now the BBC are back with its fourth outing of the regular series, promising even more twists and turns.

Earlier this month, the BBC confirmed that the first celebrity edition concluded its run with 15 million viewers, and has become the biggest on demand audience of any series across the market at seven days since records began.

With so many impressive accolades under its belt, the team behind the show certainly feel the pressure…

Mike Cotton, the creative director at Studio Lambert, shared with press including RadioTimes.com that he and the team were “blown away” with the success of The Celebrity Traitors, which admittedly adds “lots of pressure onto the civilian version”.

He explained: “We had people coming up to us, parents coming up to us and thanking us for reintroducing them to watching TV with their teenagers and their children again, because it became this big, huge family viewing event, which we didn’t really expect, it’s about murder and lies and betrayal.

“But obviously, then there’s lots of pressure onto the civilian version.”

Cotton explained that with the celebrity series, viewers are likely to know who they are and in turn, “could easily connect with them”.

“When you go back to our regular version, these are people that you don’t really know,” Cotton added. “You’ve got to learn to love them.”

The latest Traitors outing will once again see 22 people from across the UK descend on a Scottish Castle as they try and win up to £120,000.

As teased by the BBC, audiences can expect “more twists, turns, secrets, epic missions, deception, banishments and, of course, murders aplenty”.
