After almost a week atop Netflix’s chart of most-watched films in the UK right now, The Thursday Murder Club has officially been dethroned.
The star-studded movie adaptation of Richard Osman’s best-selling novel had been at the number one spot since it began streaming last week, but as of Wednesday, it had fallen to number two.
In its place is Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, an original Netflix documentary.
An official synopsis for the doc explains: “A teenage girl and her boyfriend are viciously cyberbullied by an unknown phone number for months.
“But as the investigation into the harassment unfolds, the authorities uncover a shocking secret that upends everything anyone thought they knew about the case.”
Meanwhile, another of Netflix’s biggest hits of the year, KPop Demon Hunters, currently sits at number three, having recently been named the platform’s most-watched original film in its history.
The Thursday Murder Club features an impressive cast of predominantly-British actors, led by Dame Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Sir Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie, alongside Naomi Ackie, David Tennant and Daniel Mays.
Since its release, the film has received generally positive reviews, and currently holds a critical score of 77% on the reviews aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes.
It was also directed by Chris Columbus whose other big-screen credits include Mrs Doubtfire, Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter movies.
The conversation has already turned to whether a Thursday Murder Club sequel could be on the cards, which both Chris and lead actor Dame Helen have addressed in recent interviews.
Richard Osman has so far penned four novels in the Thursday Murder Club book series, with a fifth currently slated for release later this year.
The Thursday Murder Club, Unknown Number: The High School Catfish and KPop Demon Hunters are all available to stream now on Netflix.
