A charity that uses radio controlled racing to inspire children to study science and engineering is among those benefitting from a series of cash grants.
RC Vision CIC is one of six schemes to receive funding through the Brent Cross Town 2025 Community Fund, which has awarded a total of £50,000 to projects across Barnet focusing on employment, education and skills development.
Brent Cross Town, which is being delivered by Related Argent and Barnet Council, in partnership with energy partner Vattenfall, awarded individual grants of between £3,000 and £10,000.
RC Vision CIC says it will bring radio-controlled racing to help young people learn the skills required for the jobs of tomorrow in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Other recipients include Scope, which will provide personalised, flexible support to disabled people in Barnet, to help them secure, keep and progress through employment.
The Construction Youth Trust will offer local secondary school students the opportunity to learn about the construction and development industry through a project and engagement with the Brent Cross Town development.
The Arts Depot Trust is providing support to help participants with Special Education Needs access training and work experience into creative industries.
Our Yard at Clitterhouse Farm is offering volunteering and work experience in horticulture, catering, and customer service to build skills and confidence.
And Yes Futures will help local young people with coaching, insights and work experience to build confidence, skills and career ambition.
Morwenna Hall, executive director and COO at Related Argent, said: “At Brent Cross Town, we believe it is vital to continue empowering our local community by equipping them with the tools to support their own careers and job prospects.
“By inviting residents to vote for the initiatives that matter most to them, we ensure that the Fund reflects genuine local priorities and gives everyone a voice in shaping our town’s future.
“We look forward to seeing the positive impact this year’s organisations will have, building on the fantastic successes we’ve witnessed in previous years.”
Cllr Clarke said: “Thank you to everyone who applied for the 2025 Brent Cross Town Community Fund and to those voted who for their favourite projects.
“We received more applications this year than ever before and I’m delighted to see all the amazing initiatives which help deliver skills and create employment and training opportunities across Barnet. Well done to our winners, we look forward to seeing your work make a difference.”
Alina Gheorghiu-Currie, Director of Heat Networks – London, commented. She said: “Congratulations to all the winners of this year’s Brent Cross Town Community Fund.
“Supporting local people and projects is really important for Vattenfall, and the fund has already shown how investing in local initiatives and facilities strengthens the community for the long-term. We’re excited to see the positive impact these projects will have.”
