Thailand has become a vital global air conditioner manufacturing hub, producing 19 million units in 2024. It’s the third-largest exporter, with significant markets in the US, Europe, and ASEAN.

Thailand has emerged as a significant player in the global air conditioner manufacturing sector. In 2024, the country produced an estimated 19 million units, ranking as the third-largest exporter after China and Mexico. This growth was mirrored in export revenues, which climbed to US$ 7.044 billion — a 9% increase from the previous year. Key market destinations include the United States, which alone absorbed 35% of exports, followed by Europe, ASEAN nations, Australia, and Japan. The export volume of over 21 million window or wall units underscores Thailand’s pivotal role as a global supplier.

Thailand’s strategic location and robust infrastructure underpin its thriving air conditioner industry. The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) is a linchpin in this success, hosting essential industrial clusters. In Rayong, for example, over 3,075 factories employ about 196,526 workers in the HVAC and related sectors. The Chonburi and Chachoengsao provinces further bolster this industrial network with facilities like Laem Chabang port. This extensive industrial ecosystem supports major brands and benefits from favorable government policies, enhancing Thailand’s competitive edge.

Beyond its robust export sector, Thailand’s domestic air conditioner market is also experiencing growth and dynamism. Valued at over THB30 billion, the market saw 1.75 million units sold locally in Q2 2024 alone. Several factors drive this demand, including Thailand’s tropical climate, urbanization trends, and consumer interest in energy-efficient and smart air conditioning technologies. This dual focus on domestic and international markets ensures a stable and expansive base for Thailand’s air conditioner manufacturers, sustaining the industry’s long-term growth prospects.

Thailand: A World Leader in Air Conditioner Production and Export

Thailand has established itself as a global powerhouse in the air conditioner manufacturing industry, thanks to its robust infrastructure and strategic location. As one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of air conditioning units, Thailand leverages its skilled workforce and investment-friendly policies to cater to international markets. The country’s advanced production facilities and commitment to innovation have enabled it to meet the growing global demand for energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly air conditioning solutions.

The Thai government’s proactive approach in promoting the electronics sector has attracted significant foreign investment, solidifying Thailand’s status as a leader in air conditioner exports. Key players, including renowned multinational corporations, have set up extensive manufacturing bases in the country, drawn by its competitive edge in production costs and supply chain efficiency. This thriving sector not only supports Thailand’s economy but also reinforces its reputation as a vital player in the global electronics industry.
