SAN DIEGO — The Texas Rangers can now reinsert an impact bat into their lineup as they continue a critical road trip to close out the season’s first half.
The Rangers activated outfielder Wyatt Langford (left oblique strain) after a stint on the 10-day injured list before Saturday’s game against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. Infielder Justin Foscue was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move.
Langford, 23, slashed .232/.308/.421 before he was placed on the injured list. His 13 home runs lead the Rangers despite the fact that he’s missed 16 games this season because of two separate oblique-related trips to the injured list.
His activation, coupled with center fielder Evan Carter’s return from the bereavement list Friday, gives the Rangers a healthy five-man outfield rotation. Sam Haggerty, who has a .333/.396/.458 slash line against left-handed pitchers this season, can continue to offer an option vs. southpaws in the starting lineup and off the bench.

Rookie Alejandro Osuna may stand to lose the most playing time, but the Rangers like the energy he brings and will prioritize the major league team’s immediate needs over his everyday development so long as he can continue to be a spark when needed. The quintet can also rotate in and out of the designated hitter position while Joc Pederson continues to rehab his fractured hand.
