DENVER — An 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with a teenage girl’s shooting death Tuesday evening in Denver.
Denver Police said they received a 911 call from a home in the 5500 block of Tucson Street just after 5:30 p.m. According to the probable cause (PC) statement in the case, the 911 caller said he had gone to check on his laundry in the basement and found the victim in Jasirr Simmons’ bedroom dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
The 911 caller initially told dispatchers the victim had shot herself, police said. After conducting interviews and investigating further, police said Jasirr Simmons was identified as a possible suspect.
The portion of the PC statement where detectives spoke with Simmons is completely redacted.
Another person, only identified as a female, who had been at the house had gone on a walk with Simmons and told detectives that they went through the parking lot at John Amesse Elementary, the PC statement says. The female said Simmons told her to keep walking and she believed he discarded something in a trash can at the school, according to the PC statement.
Police found a handgun in a trash can at the school and said school surveillance footage timestamps showed that the gun was tossed in the trash can at 5:44 p.m., the PC statement said.
