On Friday, June 27, a dedicated team of charity walkers will set off from Taunton on a 14-mile trek along the scenic Bridgwater and Taunton Canal path, to raise much-needed funds for the registered UK charity Philippines Poverty Relief.
The funds raised will be used to support the residents of San Juan, a poverty-stricken town in the Batangas region of the Philippines.
Philippines Poverty Relief works to improve living conditions through access to education, healthcare, food security, and sustainable livelihoods.

Taking on the challenge in Taunton is charity founder Airen Gutierrez, along with committed supporters Eliya Gyn, Maria Pita, and trustee Melody Whewell.
The team will begin their walk from Firepool Lock in Taunton at approximately 7am, with their sights set on the finish line at Bridgwater Marina, beside the Admiral’s Landing pub, around five hours later.
Airen said: “We know 14 miles is no easy feat, but it’s a small effort compared to the daily hardships faced by families in San Juan.
“Every step we take is for them — and every pound raised brings us closer to meaningful change.”

The group is calling on local residents and supporters to get involved by sponsoring the walkers, either with a fixed donation or a pledge per mile completed.
Every contribution, big or small, in its entirety, will go directly toward funding vital aid and long-term community projects in San Juan.
Spectators are encouraged to cheer on the team along the canal route or join them at the finish line to celebrate the effort and the cause.
