BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday said that if BNP wins the next parliamentary election, the party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will become the country’s prime minister.
Mirza Fakhrul made this comment at the National Council of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) on Saturday afternoon. Tarique Rahman joined the programme virtually from London, UK.
The national council of DAB, a pro-BNP doctors’ group, was held at the auditorium of Wills Little Flower School and College in Kakrail, Dhaka.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “Today, not only our acting chairman, but also our future leader and future prime minister is here. His wife, Zubaida Rahman, is also a well-known doctor. She graduated from here (Dhaka).”
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir spoke as a special guest at the event. He hinted that Tarique Rahman could become the Prime Minister if BNP wins the election.
Fakhrul shared that Dr Farid his close friend and his wife’s doctor, wants to set up a ‘centre of excellence’ for cancer treatment in Bangladesh but is unable to do so despite being an expert from the UK.
He asked for Tarique Rahman’s attention on the matter.
Fakhrul also said that Bangladesh’s drug industry, which exports globally, is now in crisis because of government policies.
He warned that some factories may have to close. He highlighted that Tarique Rahman’s 31-point plan gives important focus to the health sector.
Talking about a prosperous Bangladesh, Fakhrul said it is important not only to ensure democracy and voting rights but also the right to health, life, and food for all.
He thanked doctors who treated injured people during the anti-fascist movement, even when they were stopped or faced action. He said the nation would never forget their service and urged the government to ensure treatment for those injured in the July coup.
He also wished the DAB council success.
After the council session, voting for new DAB leadership started at 1:00 pm and will continue until 5:00pm.
