Tambuwal vows to work for Tinubu’s defeat in 2027 elections – Businessday NG

Former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has vowed to work towards unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, describing the effort as a “national consensus” to rescue Nigeria from worsening hardship.

Tambuwal, who is part of an emerging opposition coalition, said his involvement was neither about personal ambition nor regional politics but about offering Nigerians a credible alternative.

“I am fully involved in a process, democratically and lawfully, that will end — by the grace of God — in sending this government out of office,” he said. “With the help of God and Nigeria, we will send these people out of office.”

Rejecting claims that the movement is a northern agenda to remove Tinubu from power, the former governor stressed that the coalition draws support from across the country. He said Nigerians, regardless of region, are united by shared suffering caused by government policies.

Since Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, Nigerians have grappled with soaring fuel prices, inflation, and rising living costs following the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira. Tambuwal said these hardships show the government has failed to meet public expectations.

“This is about Nigeria, not one party or one man,” he said. “We are building a coalition that represents the voices of the people, a coalition that will speak for the masses in 2027.”

Tambuwal emphasised the need for opposition unity, warning that divisions similar to those in the 2023 elections gave the All Progressives Congress (APC) an advantage. He called for collective action to prevent a repeat.

He also dismissed suggestions that the opposition’s agenda is about returning power to the North, insisting that people from all regions are involved and committed to presenting a government that will truly serve Nigerians.

“The goal is clear: to give Nigerians hope and restore trust in governance,” Tambuwal said. “This is not about North or South — it is about Nigeria. And Nigerians will decide in 2027.”
