TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung’s Labor Affairs Bureau is working with other agencies to help people experiencing homelessness return to work through job matching, counseling, and follow-up support.

The Taichung City Government said Wednesday that the bureau has teamed up with nonprofits to build a support network that helps participants transition into jobs. The program includes support before, during, and after the job search, along with counseling and hiring events.

Labor Affairs Bureau Director Lin Shu-yuan (林淑媛) said the program assigns each participant a single point of contact so support continues after hiring. Lin said the goal is to help participants build confidence, settle into work, and stay employed long term.

BCC reported Wednesday that a participant using the pseudonym A-ching (阿晶) was referred through the program and worked with a job coach to line up interviews and prepare for them. The participant later landed a job and received ongoing check-ins that led to a better-fit role after discussions with the employer.

The city’s Employment Service Office said short-term subsidies and training programs help participants transition back into regular employment. It said it is developing more openings suited to participants’ needs to keep pathways open from initial placement to stable work.
