Denver, CO — Symphony of the Rockies announced today that its annual gala raised a record-breaking $96,000 in support of The Crescendo Project, the organization’s signature music education initiative. The sold-out event brought together patrons, musicians, and community leaders to invest in the future of young musicians across South Denver.
“Raising $96,000 in one night is more than a financial milestone — it’s a powerful statement about the value our community places on music, education, and equity,” said Bess Scully, Executive Director of Symphony of the Rockies. “This incredible show of support ensures that young musicians, regardless of background, can access the tools, mentorship, and experiences that shape not just great artists, but confident, creative citizens.”
The Crescendo Project provides transformative access to music education for students who may not otherwise have the opportunity. The program includes in-school enrichment, mentorship, conducting labs, and Children’s Discovery Concerts designed to ignite a lifelong love of music in the next generation.
“The Crescendo Project is where our mission truly comes alive — it’s where we hand the baton to the next generation,” added Devin Patrick Hughes, Conductor and Artistic Director. “This funding means more than instruments and lessons; it means doors opening, voices being heard, and young people discovering the power of music to transform their lives so they can transform their communities.”
For 72 years, Symphony of the Rockies has been a cultural pillar in the Denver Metro region. Since the appointment of Maestro Hughes in 2013, the organization has doubled its operating budget, professionalized the ensemble, broadened educational outreach, and consistently played to sold-out audiences. From virtual concerts during the pandemic to sensory-friendly performances and community engagement programs, Symphony of the Rockies remains committed to making symphonic music accessible and inclusive for all.
The orchestra is composed of professional musicians, pre-professionals, passionate community members, and music educators. Programming spans the classical canon to contemporary works, film scores, pop, folk, and even video game music.
Through initiatives like the Children’s Discovery Concert Series, Emerging Artists Program, the Crescendo Project, Symphony of the Rockies continues to serve thousands of students each season, making it not only a performance ensemble but also a cornerstone of music education and outreach in the region.
