Elex Michaelson to host a new nightly political show on CNN based in Los Angeles.
Sydney Berger has joined the ABC30 sports team. She replaces Alec Nolan, who left to anchor the news at a station in Austin, Texas.
Berger arrives from KXLY-TV, the ABC affiliate in Spokane, Washington. She spent two years at the station as a sports reporter. The Northern California native attended Washington State and stayed in the area for her journalism career.
“For those who know me personally, you know getting back closer to home has always been a goal. I’m excited that the journey gets to start with such a great company and even better people,” Berger wrote on her Instagram account.
She joins main sports anchor Stephen Hicks.
ABC30 has been a launching pad for sports reporters landing bigger jobs. Tommy Tran is a host at the digital CBS Sports HQ. Chris Alvarez is sports anchor at the ABC/Disney-owned station in San Francisco. Jason Oliveira, ABC30’s morning anchor, started on the sports desk.
Rose Ortega Named New Traffic Reporter on KMJ
Listeners used to hearing Rose Ortega spinning country tracks can now hear her update the traffic.
Until earlier this month, Ortega was the midday DJ on KJUG 106.7 in Visalia. She is now providing afternoon traffic reports on KMJ (AM 580 and FM 105.9).
“So much for retirement,” she posted on social media. She will also fill in as a news anchor.
The radio veteran also spent 10 years, from 2001 to 2011, on Soft Rock 98.9.
Logan Leaves KSEE
KSEE24 Sunrise anchor Brody Logan left the station last month for an anchor job in Jacksonville, Florida. He now works on the morning show for the WTLV/WJXX-TV duopoly owned by Tegna.
Logan arrived at KSEE24 in 2020 from Denver, and spent more than five years on the morning show.
Elex Michaelson Heading to CNN
Elex Michaelson, considered one of California’s top political reporters, is going national.
Michaelson anchored for the Fox-owned station in Los Angeles, and also hosted a weekly statewide syndicated political show, The Issue Is.
He announced he will host a nightly Los Angeles-based show on CNN, airing weeknights from 9 to 11 p.m. Pacific time.
“I am so excited to join CNN and learn firsthand from some of the most talented journalists on the planet,” said Michaelson in a news release. “I’m especially grateful that CNN is expanding its investment in my hometown as the West Coast houses so many global leaders in politics, entertainment, technology, sports and more. This is truly a dream job.”
CNN has not announced a start date.
Janet Stoll-Lee Passes Away
Former FOX26 news anchor Janet Stoll-Lee passed away, the station reported on Sept. 12. She died after a six-year battle with dementia.
Stoll-Lee worked at the station in the 1980s and 1990s. She then worked as a spokesperson for the Clovis Police Department.
