I gathered signatures for the voter ID ballot measure during the November 2024 election. It was an uncomfortable but gratifying experience. Most voters at my polling place gladly signed the petition, many expressing surprise that voter identification was not already the law in our state.
Many people were surprised to learn that absentee ballots in our state, once requested, come to the same address year after year — even after the requester has moved or, sadly, passed away. “I’m required to show an ID to get on a plane or buy a beer, but not to vote? That’s crazy,” more than one person told me.
The voter ID ballot initiative ensures that every vote cast is legal. It modernizes absentee voting rules to improve transparency and accountability and to prevent errors and fraud. This will increase trust in elections. Please join me in voting “Yes” on Question 1.
