Sun Industries India has doubled the production capacity of its auto components facility in Chennai by installing new heavy engineering machinery, the company announced. The expansion aims to address rising client demand and supports the company’s growth strategy.

The company noted that the expansion aligns with ongoing capacity growth and technological upgrades in Chennai’s auto component manufacturing sector to meet increasing domestic and international demand. To mark the launch of the expanded facility, the company held a traditional Pooja ceremony.

Located in Chennai, a city responsible for approximately 30 percent of India’s total automobile production and 35 percent of its auto components output in 2024, the plant benefits from the region’s developed industrial infrastructure and skilled workforce. Chennai hosts manufacturing units of multiple global automotive brands and is experiencing growth in electric vehicle manufacturing, driven by supportive government policies and infrastructure development in Tamil Nadu.

The Chennai plant expansion forms part of Sun Industries India’s strategic efforts to enhance production efficiency and strengthen its position in the automotive supply chain.

Sun Industries operates multiple manufacturing facilities in Tamil Nadu, including units in Porur (Chennai), Thattankulam (Madurai), and Sriperumbudur. These plants specialize in pressed metal components and house capabilities such as tool design, in-house assembly, and a range of presses from 1 to 350 tonnes, with plans to scale up to 600 tonnes. Employing around 400 people, the company emphasizes quality, precision, and integrated manufacturing processes to support its role in the automotive supply chain.
