Ordinary Nigerians have been urged to recognize that blockchain is a technology positioned to simplify financial transactions for youths, traders, and those outside the formal banking system.
Head of Operations for Sui Nigeria, Oluchi Jennifer Okoh, who spoke at the Suinami Lagos event held at HighPoint Event Centre, Agidingbi, Ikeja, emphasized the importance of introducing blockchain technology to the grassroots.
She noted that Sui offers an easier and more accessible payment system, one that requires no bank account and is practical enough for a market trader to use.
Okoh explained that the programme is part of a broader effort to educate people on the possibilities of Sui and the blockchain ecosystem. She described it as an opportunity for Nigerians to understand how emerging technologies can be used to build new systems, create solutions, and empower communities.
“The Sui blockchain is an amazing technology. We want young people to pay attention, understand it, and take advantage of it. Getting people educated on this space is very vital.”
The Suinami Lagos event drew students from various tertiary institutions across Nigeria, including those from Abuja, Ogun, Oyo, and other states. Despite being held in Lagos, the programme attracted attendees from far beyond, underscoring the wide-reaching interest in blockchain education. The hall was filled to capacity, reflecting the hunger for knowledge in this rapidly evolving sector.
Although not the first of its kind, Suinami Lagos continues a growing series of events hosted by the Sui network across Nigeria. Okoh noted that there are now representatives in 34 states, hosting sessions every weekend to broaden access and understanding of blockchain technology.
She added that Sui isn’t just building for the tech-savvy or financially privileged, rather it is building for everyday Nigeria — including the informal sector.
“We have many youths already building on Sui,” she said, adding, “We are creating something useful for ordinary Nigerians, systems that make payments easy without a bank account.”
Sui Blockchain was originally founded in the United States by Evan Cheng, CEO and Co-founder of Mysten Labs. A former Facebook engineer, Cheng spearheaded the development of Sui’s technology infrastructure. In Nigeria, Adeniyi Abiodun, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Mysten Labs, plays a key role in guiding the platform’s local adoption.
With growing interest among students, developers, and entrepreneurs, Sui is positioning itself as a transformative player in Nigeria’s digital financial future, bridging technology with real-life needs, one state at a time.
