It’s time to batten down the hatches as Storm Amy is set to wreak havoc.
The first named storm of the season will bring severe weather, especially on the west and south-west coast. Met Eireann has issued three warnings ahead of the storm.
An orange warning is in place for Co Kerry this morning until 8pm tonight. Met Eireann is warning of flooding and very difficult travelling conditions.
A Status Yellow alert is valid for Co Cavan, Co Donegal, Co Munster, Co Connacht, and Co Longford. Potential impacts of the storm include localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions. The warning is in place until 8pm tonight.
An Ireland-wide yellow weather warning will be in place tomorrow from 12pm until midnight on Saturday. Potential impacts include difficult travelling conditions, debris and loose objects being displaced, and some fallen trees.
As for Dublin, today will start off dry, but the rest of the day will be wet and blustery with some spells of heavy rain. Daytime temperatures will be around 15 to 17 degrees.
Heavy, blustery rain will clear away into the Irish Sea early tonight, giving way to long, clear spells. Temperatures are expected to range from 9 to 12 degrees.
Storm Amy will bring heavy rain and severe and potentially damaging gusts tomorrow. The rain will clear to just well-scattered showers with daytime temperatures of 18 or 19 degrees.
There is no further forecast for Dublin but here’s what the national outlook says:
Friday night
“Windy with scattered heavy showers or longer spells of rain, especially across Ulster. Strong to near gale force west to southwest winds will affect the country with gales on northern and western coasts. Cooler than recent nights with lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees.
Saturday
“Windy on Saturday with strong and gusty westerly winds. A band of heavy showery rain will sink down from the north, gradually becoming drier through the day with sunny spells developing. Southern counties will stay largely dry. Cooler with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.
Sunday
“Generally cloudy on Sunday with well scattered passing blustery showers. More general falls of rain will push in from the west through the evening. West to southwest winds will be fresh and gusty. Highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees.
Monday
“Cloudy outbreaks of blustery rain will affect the north and west. Drier elsewhere, though rain will begin to sink southeastwards during the evening hours. A milder day overall with highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in a mostly fresh southwest wind.”
