Across the region, local sporting communities have swapped their usual gear for pink in a powerful show of support during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Leading the charge were the Busselton Squash Club and Dunsborough Districts Country Club Mid-Week Ladies Tennis, each hosting heartfelt events that united members around a common cause.
At the Busselton Squash Club, the courts were buzzing as players gathered for a special, pink-themed fundraiser, raising more than $1000.
“It was mainly about spreading awareness,” vice-president Danielle Mayors said.
“But it really showed just how close-knit our club is, we had returning members visit for the cause, such as Sharon Hamilton who is survivor of breast cancer.”
Meanwhile, the tennis courts at Dunsborough Districts Country Club were a sea of pink as members rallied together to support those affected by cancer — including some of their own.
Ladies Tennis Club coordinator Penny Edington said the club chose to host the event as mostly all members were affected by cancer in some way.
“We all know someone or a few of the girls themselves have gone through their own cancer battles, so we decided to go pink,” she said.
“We raised more than $400 for the McGrath Foundation and now the club itself took it onboard and other sporting sections within the club and are raising funds within their own groups.”
