December 23 — South Korean payment giant BC Card has wrapped up a stablecoin payment pilot program, allowing foreign users to pay local merchants with stablecoins. The pilot is a collaboration between BC Card, blockchain firm Wavebridge, wallet provider Aaron Group, and cross-border remittance service Global Money Express. It lets foreign users convert stablecoins from their overseas wallets into a digital prepaid card via BC Card. As one of South Korea’s largest payment companies, BC Card processes more than 20% of the nation’s card transactions and serves 3.4 million domestic merchants. Its controlling shareholder is KT Corporation, one of the country’s three major telecom firms.
