KAPIT (Aug 8): Members of two village security and development committees (JKKK) recently visited the Malaysian Agriculture Research and Development Institute (Mardi) in Saratok as part of a study tour.
Pekan Song JKKK vice chairman Lau Ung San said the visit saw members learn more about agriculture and food production techniques, as part of efforts to encourage them to venture into modern farming.
“Many farmers in Song still practise traditional farming, producing enough for their own consumption and for sale in the local market.
“The visit to Mardi Saratok was to encourage them to venture into modern farming, with the goal of generating increased income and boosting the local economy,” he said.
Lau said apart from Pekan Song JKKK, the 52-member delegation comprised those from Kampung Cina Song JKKK, and included Temenggong Toh Tze Hua, Pemanca Lim Eng Hock, Penghulu John Kho Chong Bie, Kapitan Kong Chong Min, and Kapitan Lim Hui Eng.
During the visit, the JKKK members were briefed on the agency’s role and functions by Mardi Saratok officer-in-charge Terasa Anie Meng.
They also visited a farm and witnessed the processing and packaging of local agricultural products.
