Social Saving Clubs Unite for Local Breast Cancer Awareness Event

On Saturday, October 11, the McDonald Hughes Community Center in Tuscaloosa will serve as the starting point for the inaugural Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. The event is organized by the Reunion Social Saving Club, a coalition of nine individual clubs dedicated to serving the community.

“This event marks the first major initiative of the year for the Reunion Social Saving Club as part of its ongoing commitment to give back to the Tuscaloosa community,” said the press release.

“A percentage of the proceeds raised during the walk will be donated to the Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center to support breast cancer research and patient care, as well as to the Christian Community Church to assist with their Homeless Outreach Efforts in November.”

The walk invites everyone from survivors to families, friends, and neighbors to come together in unity. By joining, participants will not only stand in solidarity with those impacted by breast cancer but also support those in need.

“We are proud to bring together nine social clubs under one umbrella to serve and uplift our community,” said Cynthia Travis, Business Manager of the Reunion Social Saving Club. “This walk is more than a fundraiser — it’s a movement of unity, compassion, and hope.”

The registration fee is $5 per participant, with proceeds benefiting Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center & Christian Community Church Homeless Outreach.

For more information or to register, please contact Cynthia Travis at [email protected].

Have a community event coming up? We’d love to help spread the word!

The Tuscaloosa Thread and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa radio stations welcome press releases for possible coverage in our “Community 411” news coverage.

To be considered, events should be either free to the public or fundraisers that benefit the community. Sharing your event with us is a great way to reach more people across Tuscaloosa and West Alabama, encouraging their participation and support.

We are excited to help highlight the positive work happening in our area and to support community programs together, making a meaningful impact.

Send your press release to [email protected] at least two weeks (or earlier) before your event.
