TEHRAN, Oct. 19 (MNA) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that, according to Tehran’s view, shared by Russia and China as permanent members of the UN Security Council, the snapback mechanism has not been activated.
In an interview with ISNA, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that based on the shared stance of Iran, Russia, and China, the snapback mechanism has not been activated and UN Security Council Resolution 2231 has formally expired.
“With the expiration of this resolution, all [UN] Security Council restrictions against Iran are fully lifted, and the Iran [nuclaer] issue will be removed from the Council’s agenda,” Araghchi said.
He added that this position has received wide international backing. “During the recent Non-Aligned Movement summit, more than 120 countries endorsed this view in the final communiqué,” he noted.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Araghchi highlighted that the broad cooperation between Tehran and Moscow reflects a sustainable and long-term partnership, further strengthened by the signing of a comprehensive 20-year cooperation agreement.
He also referred to past discussions regarding the snapback mechanism, saying that “all related details were recorded in official negotiation documents and repeatedly explained in my previous interviews.”
“The key priority now,” Araghchi concluded, “is to strengthen Iran’s position and that of like-minded countries within the Security Council, while maintaining national unity and coherence to advance our country’s supreme interests.”
