SIX Myanmar teachers have been awarded the Princess Maha Chakri Award, which is given by the Princess Maha Chakri Award Foundation to honour the teachers, according to the foundation at its press conference at the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon on 29 September.
The foundation has previously awarded the prize to 11 countries, but now it has been extended to three more countries, making a total of 14 countries.
There are so far 69 award winners of the prize given every two years in the world, including Myanmar teachers. “The foundation selected the best teachers from each country on the best criteria. We give the prize to teachers every two years. Eligible countries have increased from 11 to 14,” said an official of the foundation.
Six Myanmar teachers have received the award, and there are 48 Maha Chakri Award Foundation Project Schools.
The 2025 award ceremony will be held in Thailand on 15 October and will be streamed live on PMCA Facebook and YouTube. “I was awarded this prize in 2020 and personally received it in 2021. Within one year, we went through selection processes and interviews at the township, state/ region and national levels. After performances and curriculum were screened, three teachers were selected, and I stood at the number one. To win this award, you have to pass the exams and be able to present the projects you are working on”, said Ko Kyaw Zin Aung, who won the prize for the fourth time in 2021.
