It’s World Champagne Day.
Every fourth Friday in October, champagne lovers around the globe unite to celebrate the world’s most effervescent drink.
What began in 2009 as a cheerful toast from Californian wine tutor Chris Oggenfus has since grown into a global celebration — an excuse to sip, savour and share the bubbles that have long been a symbol of celebration.
From Paris to Perth, flutes will be clinking as bars, restaurants and wine lovers pay tribute to the only sparkling wine that can truly call itself champagne — produced exclusively in France’s Champagne region, about 150 kilometres northeast of Paris.
The region is home to more than 100 champagne houses and around 19,000 vine-growing producers, who together craft nearly 300 million bottles of champagne each year.
The 2025 Drinks International Report revealed Louis Roederer as the hottest global champagne brand right now, followed closely by Krug and Bollinger.
Venues in Perth are ready to keep the bubbles flowing.
At QT Perth’s Santini Bar & Grill and rooftop bar, manager Remy Wise-Petering, 25, said city sipping was the perfect way to celebrate the fizzy French invention.
“We’ve got the champagne ordered and ready to go, it’s sitting on ice just waiting to be popped,” she said.
“We are a destination venue, we host a lot of celebrations. You can bet that at least 95 per cent of our guests are here for something special, and every special celebration deserves champagne alongside it.”
