Signing of 11 MoU with India testament to PM Anwar’s role in regional, global partnership

KUALA LUMPUR: The successful signing of 11 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) and cooperation documents with India stands as a testament to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership in cementing Malaysia’s role as a vital regional and global strategic partner.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said in a statement that this milestone opens a fresh chapter in economic and political ties between the two nations.

This achievement does more than just bridge two countries; it bolsters global investor confidence and reinforces Malaysia’s standing as a cornerstone of the Asean region.

The numbers tell a compelling story of growth, with bilateral trade between Malaysia and India soaring to RM79.49bil ($18.59bil) in 2025, positioning Malaysia as India’s third-largest trading partner within Asean.

According to Ramanan, this is the direct harvest of economic reforms, political stability, and consistent government policies designed to attract high-quality investment.

The atmosphere of the collaboration was further solidified during the official visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and as both leaders stood witness to the exchange of documents, it sent a clear signal of India’s political and economic trust in Malaysia’s stability under the Madani government, he said.

A highlight of this partnership is the strategic cooperation in the semiconductor sector.

Ramanan emphasised that this agreement is a “clear signal” that Malaysia remains a trusted and competitive link in the high-tech industry’s global value chain.

The cooperation extends far beyond technology, reaching into the heart of human development as new agreements in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), healthcare, disaster management, and social security – specifically between Malaysia’s PERKESO and India’s Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) – are expected to create high-quality jobs and strengthen the nation’s workforce.

As the minister-in-attendance throughout the visit, Ramanan concluded that the strengthening of the Malaysia-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) effectively silences any doubts regarding the government’s economic management.

“Today, Malaysia is no longer seen as just a trading partner, but a strategic ally that is both trusted and relied upon,” he added.

Prime Minister Modi departed for home on Sunday, concluding a two-day official visit to Malaysia at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. – Bernama
