Kristin Cavallari has recently opened up about her divorce from Jay Cutler. She spoke about feeling the pain and emotions during her divorce, adding that she was in a survival mode.
Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler announced their split in 2020, seven years after being married. The divorce was confirmed in 2022. They have three kids together: sons Camden and Jaxon and daughter, Saylor.
The couple’s divorce was a publicized affair and a messy one as well. Cavallari opened up about her learnings from it in an episode of her Let’s Be Honest podcast on Tuesday. She said:
“This is a big one that I did not do until I got a divorce — learn to love the hard times too. There is beauty in pain and we need the dark to appreciate the light. For so many years, as long as I could remember, I didn’t wanna feel anything. I wanted to push everything away. I was like, ‘I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m fine. I’m the tough girl.'”
Cavallari further spoke about her vulnerability and being in survival mode. Blogger Perez Hilton reacted to these comments on his website, writing:
“That’s real vulnerability right there! It takes major strength to do something like that.”
He shared the actress and businesswoman’s comments and added:
“Aw! She’s come so far!”
Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler, notably, had a messy divorce, especially regarding money claims. The former claimed that she got no money in the divorce, while Culter denied these accusations.

In the latest episode of her podcast, Kristin Cavallari explained that one must feel all the feelings, even negative ones, to go through difficult situations. She explained that during her divorce from Jay Cutler, she “wanted” to feel the pain and sit in her emotions, saying:
“During my divorce, I was like, ‘You know what? This is the first time in my life I wanna feel it all. I wanna experience it all. The good, the bad, the ugly, I wanna feel the pain. I wanna sit in it. I don’t wanna rush or run from it.’ And thank God I did, because that was where the majority of my growth and life came from. The pain, and the hurt, and the suffering is there to teach us something.”
She explained that this allowed her to get out of survival mode and move into a “beautiful” part of life, saying:
“That’s how you get to the other side, where it’s even more beautiful. … When I was in survival mode, it really served a purpose. I needed it to get to where I was going and then it got to a point in life where it doesn’t serve anymore. It’s kinda fun to let life surprise you and let the universe be your guide sometimes.”
Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler met after being set up by a mutual friend in 2010. Cutler proposed to her the following year, and they welcomed their son, Camden, in 2012. They then got married in 2013, before splitting in 2020.
