SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, an argument between acquaintances turned deadly Saturday afternoon when a man was shot and killed.
Authorities arrested Dais at the scene and charged him with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Deputies responded around 3:44 p.m. to a reported shooting on Louis Circle in the Rembert community, where they found 51-year-old Rodney China dead.
Investigators said an argument between China and Quinshaun Dais, 38, escalated into a fight. Dais fired several shots, hitting and killing China.
Dais is being held at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center waiting for a bond hearing, officials said.
This was totally avoidable and unnecessary,” Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis said. “It was an argument that could have remained civil. Instead, the argument turned into an assault, and the suspect then resorted to deadly force.
Dennis said the incident was isolated, adding, “A life was lost, and families are forever changed. People must learn to communicate and never resort to gun violence.”
