SharpLink Gaming has significantly ramped up its Ethereum (ETH) holdings in recent weeks, executing over $160 million in ETH purchases since mid-July. These acquisitions bring the company’s total holdings to more than 480,000 ETH, valued at approximately $1.65 billion as of early August 2025. The move marks one of the most aggressive institutional Ethereum treasury strategies to date.
On August 2, SharpLink acquired 14,900 ETH via an over-the-counter (OTC) deal with Galaxy Digital, amounting to approximately $52.56 million. This transaction was quickly followed by a larger purchase between August 1 and 3, in which the company spent $108.57 million USDC to acquire 30,755 ETH at an average price of $3,530. These two back-to-back moves pushed SharpLink’s total ETH holdings above the 480,000 mark.
The August buying spree comes on the heels of substantial acquisitions in late July, when the company purchased 77,209 ETH, funded by $279.2 million raised through at-the-market (ATM) share offerings. Just a week prior, from July 14 to 20, SharpLink had bought another 79,949 ETH, increasing its holdings to 360,807 ETH. Even earlier, on July 11, the company made headlines by acquiring 10,000 ETH from the Ethereum Foundation.
These moves represent a deliberate and sustained strategy that began in early June 2025. SharpLink has been consistently using private placements and equity sales to build a massive ETH reserve, following a playbook similar to MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin strategy. However, unlike most corporate ETH holders, SharpLink’s activity shows both speed and scale, suggesting a more aggressive view on Ethereum’s future valuation and utility.
SharpLink’s ETH accumulation points to a broader shift in how corporations are managing treasury assets. Ethereum’s role in decentralized finance (DeFi), staking, and smart contract execution makes it an attractive reserve asset for firms looking to diversify beyond traditional currencies.
Although SharpLink has yet to disclose any plans regarding staking or validator participation, its massive ETH holdings now position it as a potential whale in Ethereum governance and security. Whether the company will engage in active on-chain participation or simply hold ETH as a balance sheet asset remains to be seen.
The scale of SharpLink’s ETH purchases could have broader implications for the crypto market. Large institutional buys can tighten liquidity and apply upward price pressure, particularly in times of low exchange float. In addition, SharpLink’s sustained acquisition pattern could set a precedent for other mid-cap public firms to consider Ethereum as a viable reserve asset.
With a total ETH position exceeding $1.65 billion, SharpLink Gaming is no longer just a digital betting platform — it is now one of the largest known institutional Ethereum holders. As the company continues its accumulation, market participants and investors alike will be watching closely to see if others follow suit.
