Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon stated on the 5th, “The aftermath of the policy disaster that dried up the seeds of supply during the Moon Jae-in administration and the previous mayor’s tenure continues to this day,” adding, “The only solution is to proceed with redevelopment and reconstruction as soon as possible.”
Mayor Oh posted a message titled ‘It’s Not Someone Else’s Fault, It’s Time to Coordinate Efforts’ on his SNS that day, writing, “There is no courage to face uncomfortable truths, and fearing public criticism, one may want to shift blame onto someone else, but the public already knows the truth.”
He emphasized, “No one can deny that focusing all efforts on housing supply to overcome the current real estate crisis is a shared task for all of us,” adding, “Following Democratic Party politicians, even those who claim responsibility for government policies are shifting blame onto the Seoul Metropolitan Government by citing unfounded bottlenecks in permits and approvals to justify the housing shortage.”
He continued, “The Seoul Metropolitan Government has already welcomed the government’s willingness to supply housing and clearly stated its intention to cooperate to the fullest,” and noted, “Nevertheless, the government’s behavior, which fosters discord with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, is unwise.”
He further stated, “The government should now bolster the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s efforts and act as a catalyst for supply,” adding, “Statements blaming others or dividing sides, which ignore reality, will only deepen public skepticism about the willingness to cooperate on housing supply and offer no help in resolving the issue.”
Additionally, Mayor Oh urged, “There is no division between ruling and opposition parties in supply policies, and the central government and the Seoul Metropolitan Government must coordinate efforts,” and called on the government and ruling party, “I hope you will now learn from past failures and join efforts to normalize housing supply.”
