Leeds United defender Sebastiaan Bornauw says he’s happy to have been trusted to start in two significant games for the Whites as he mow targets more Premier League appearances after a slow start to his time at Elland Road.
The 26-year-old centre back has been linked in some quarters with a potential move away from the club in January after a tough first half of the campaign. Signed from Wolfsburg last summer for around £5m, Bornauw has managed just five league appearances and seven games in total so far this season.
Selected to start away at Liverpool and at home to Manchester United, Joe Rodon’s return saw him drop back to the bench for the game with Newcastle United, before being recalled to the starting XI for the FA Cup game at Derby County.

Replaced at half-time in that game with an abductor injury, the defender is fit again and ready to plat against Fulham on Saturday afternoon. With almost a fully fit squad to select from, it looks like Bornauw will have to be patient again for his chance, something he suggests is understandable given the options, with no indication he’s looking to get out to play more football.
“It is part of football. Of course, everyone wants to play as much as possible,” Bornauw told Premier League Productions.
“In the beginning of the preseason I had an injury, I was out for four or five weeks so I missed a lot of preseason.
“You are maybe a bit behind because you did not have the preseason and then you are trying to work as hard as possible to come in as quick as possible.
“I am happy that I got starts in two big games. I hope I get many more. We have four good centre-backs, we are all working hard and making each other better every day.”
