TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – A building competition was underway in Tuscaloosa County!
Nine teams of high school students from around the state met at McAbee Construction barn on McWright’s Ferry Road and built several 8 x 10 wooden sheds, all complete with doors, siding and electrical work.
This was 12 annual team competition and they had just two days to build them.
“Some of them want to be architects, some want to be engineers and some want to learn how to do it for themselves. So, it’s judged according to measurements, not according to time. The students want to hurry up and get done but time has nothing to do with it. It’s according to the measurements, the looks and appearance,” said Northside High School carpentry instructor Brian Renfro.
“I find it very calming. I’ve done it since I was young, so it’s something I’ve grown up around, done for a long time,” said Northside High School student Miles Ergle.
The farthest school that participated was from Baldwin County.
WBRC is still waiting for the list of winners who won from the Tuscaloosa County school district.
