TOLEDO, Ohio — The Boys & Girls Club of Toledo is warning area residents and businesses of a fundraising scam falsely claiming to represent the organization.
“The scam is targeting the business community and individuals in the Toledo area, claiming to be soliciting funds to send children to camp,” the club said in a statement on Monday.
But the club, a local chapter of a national organization that provides a variety of development opportunities for youths, says it does not do door-to-door fundraising.
“We do not, and never will fundraise door to door,” Billy Mann, the club’s senior director of resource development, said in the statement.
“Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo encourages anyone with questions about the legitimacy of a fundraiser to contact the organization’s administration center at 419.241.4258,” the statement goes on to say.
The club says the most secure way to donate is on its website.
