BELLOWS FALLS — The Saxtons River Art Guild is offering two watercolor workshops this month, “Essential Edges in Watercolor” on Saturday, Oct. 11, and “Painting Autumn Trees in Watercolor, on Saturday, Oct. 25. Both workshops take place at the United Church of Bellows Falls, 8 School St. The cost is $65 for SRAG members and $85 for others.
Lynn Zimmerman’s workshop will explore the transitions in color and value shift that are essential in describing shape, volume, space, and movement. Participants will learn to identify the various types of boundaries, analyze some master paintings to see great edges at work, and then practice making soft (gentle), hard (abrupt), lost (unnoticed), and broken (lively) edges before working them into their own paintings.
On Saturday, Oct. 25, Donna Cary will offer “Painting Autumn Trees in Watercolor.” She invites artists to explore some different techniques for painting individual trees, as well as trees in the landscape. Beginning with a practice exercise of painting four individual trees, one from each season, Donna will then demonstrate an autumn landscape referring to a photo reference. The focus will be on exploring light and mood through color, contrast, and techniques.
Artists at all levels, except absolute beginners, are invited to participate and should bring their own watercolor supplies, as well as lunch. For more information contact the presenters, [email protected] and [email protected].
Zimmerman’s workshop is from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Cary’s meets from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Enrollment is limited to 12. To register, email [email protected]. Future workshops include Painting Flowers with Annelein Beukenkamp on April 18 and Exploring Pastels with Maryann Mullet on May 15.
