Saudi German Health (SGH), a leading healthcare provider in the Middle East and Africa, announced a significant expansion of its relationship with Mayo Clinic, making it the largest group of Mayo Clinic Care Network members in the region. The move aims to bring global medical expertise to Egypt and the wider region, enhancing healthcare quality and patient experience, aligning with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
The signing ceremony took place at the Waldorf Astoria Cairo. Attendees included Saudi German Health Group executives, leading physicians, a Mayo Clinic delegation, Mohamed Gobran, Egyptian Minister of Manpower, and Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, Assistant Minister of Health, Population, Institutional Development, Parliamentary Affairs, Political Communication and Media, representing Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population. Also present was Omar Sherif, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals, on behalf of Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, highlighting Egypt’s interest in such health sector cooperation.
Makarem Sobhi Batterjee, Vice Chairman of Saudi German Health, described the collaboration as a long-term commitment to providing care on par with the highest global standards. He stated, “The Group aims to put the patient at the centre of our strategy so that every citizen can access advanced medical care without leaving their homeland. This relationship with Mayo Clinic is more than a joint effort — it’s a pledge to our patients and community to open new horizons for exceptional healthcare for all. Batterjee added that Saudi German Health is now the largest Mayo Clinic Care Network member in the region, with a vision to become the number one private healthcare provider in medical quality and excellence in the UAE and the Arab World by 2030 through this expanded ecosystem.
Mohamed Hablas, Regional Director for Saudi German Health in Egypt and North Africa, explained that the collaboration began in 2019 with Saudi German Hospital-Cairo and later expanded to branches in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Through this relationship, SGH physicians can directly connect with Mayo Clinic peers for expertise exchange, updates on therapeutic techniques, and advanced training. SGH is also collaborating with Mayo Clinic on specialty-based clinical transformation programmes, providing patients with trusted educational resources and support throughout their treatment journey. This also aims to attract patients from various countries, enhancing Egypt’s position as a reliable destination for medical tourism.
Eric Moore, Medical Director at Mayo Clinic International and Head and Neck Tumour Surgery Specialist, described the agreement: “Our relationship with Saudi German Health reflects a deep commitment to advancing care through knowledge sharing and clinical transformation. Minister Gobran commented that the strategic agreement represents a qualitative leap, bringing global expertise, medical practices, and innovations to Egypt and the region. The relationship will introduce specialty-based clinical transformation programmes, starting with cardiovascular care. Mayo Clinic experts will conduct annual evaluations at SGH hub hospitals, co-developing transformation roadmaps to improve patient safety, operational efficiency, and leadership capabilities. These learnings will be shared across the SGH network to ensure consistent world-class standards.
