Sanwo-Olu unblocks lawyer on X after lawsuit, invites him for clarification

A Nigerian lawyer, Festus Ogun, who had earlier sued Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for blocking him on X (formerly Twitter), has shared an update after being invited for a meeting with the governor.

Weeks ago, Festus accused Governor Sanwo-Olu of blocking him on the microblogging platform over his alleged constructive criticisms of government policies and his consistent demands for accountability regarding the October 2020 #EndSARS massacre.

The lawyer described the act as a violation of his human rights and subsequently filed a lawsuit against the governor.

Taking to X, Festus shared photos of himself with Governor Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos House, Marina, where they had what he described as an amicable meeting.

He revealed that the governor has since unblocked him and offered clarifications on the circumstances that led to the initial blocking.

Expressing his position after the meeting, Festus wrote:

“Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unblocked me on X (Twitter). I met briefly with him yesterday at Lagos House Marina, on his invitation, to amicably resolve my complaint of human rights violations. We will continue to hold authorities accountable, regardless. Aluta continua!”

He further added that he was grateful to his legal representative, Desmond Tobe Oris, who accompanied him during the mediation.

Despite the resolution, Festus maintained that his commitment to holding public officials accountable remains firm, stressing that the amicable settlement would not affect his advocacy for justice and transparency in governance.

KikelomoSowore stated, “Well done. He should compensate you for the time he blocked you for. You have missed many updates from state level . E.g not knowing if the Third Mainland Bridge is still 3MB or the state has done subscription for more data bundles. 😅.”

KingMaker_ii reacted: “Wish Nigeria works, things would have been this seamless and our leaders would have been more prudent.”
