Ryan Reynolds has been one of the biggest names in the industry over the last few years, most recently for his record-breaking work with Marvel Studios on Deadpool and Wolverine in 2024. Other comedy and action movies like Free Guy, Spirited, and The Adam Project have also earned Reynolds plenty of acclaim and critical success, and he shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Notably, fans are waiting to find out if he will play a role with Marvel again in Avengers: Doomsday, but he also has other new endeavors in development.
One of the more mysterious movies on Reynolds’s upcoming schedule is Animal Friends, a hybrid animation/live-action comedy about a spirited pony and a gruff bear who unite for a cross-country adventure. However, after multiple delays to its release have already held it back, it appears it will still be a long time until it comes to theaters
According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Warner Bros. Discovery has again delayed the release of Ryan Reynolds’s upcoming Animal Friends movie. Most recently scheduled to hit theaters on Jun. 5, 2026, the movie will not be ready for big screens until Jun. 2027. This movie was first announced for development in Apr. 2023 before starting production two months later. Filming for Animal Friends reportedly concluded in Apr. 2024, before multiple delays pushed the movie’s release date back from its original Aug. 15, 2025 release date.
It was first delayed to Oct. 10, 2025, after the distribution rights moved from Sony Pictures/Columbia Pictures to Warner Bros. It was then pushed back once again to May 1, 2026, before a third delay moved it to its most recent Jun. 2026 debut date.
