Royal Mail has issued warnings to 44 postcodes nationwide regarding potential delays, as freshly published data reveals the service is falling short of delivery benchmarks.
The postal giant, which aims to deliver letters and parcels six days weekly, stated on its website: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.
” In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive. We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”
Royal Mail disclosed that 91.6% of second-class letters reached their destination within three working days, whilst 77.5% of first-class post arrived the following working day during the period from September 29 to November 30.
Nevertheless, both outcomes fail to meet the performance criteria established by Ofcom, which demand 93% of first-class mail to be delivered the next day and 98.5% of second-class items to arrive within three days.
