NCP leader Rohit Pawar lambasted the Maharashtra government as a ‘Ghajini government’ for forgetting promises. On Farmers Day, he voiced opposition to the Public Security Act, deeming it a threat to democracy. Pawar criticized the ongoing debate over renaming Nizampur, alleging it distracts from crucial issues.
In a fiery critique, Rohit Pawar, a leader of the NCP’s Sharad Pawar faction, labeled the Maharashtra government a ‘Ghajini government,’ accusing it of forgetting its promises once in power. Addressing reporters on Farmers Day, Pawar asserted, ‘This government has a selective amnesia to gain power and then ignores its commitments. As we commemorate Farmers Day in Maharashtra, it is crucial to remind the government of its promises to the farmers.’
Pawar also voiced his strong opposition to the proposed Public Security Act, cautioning that it poses a significant threat to democracy and civil liberties. He remarked, ‘If enacted, this act will hinder any protest against government policies, suppressing voices from farmers, common people, and journalists. It is a draconian step that must be resisted.’
Amidst controversies, Pawar criticized the ruling alliance for using fear to suppress dissent, especially among the farmers and marginalized. Furthermore, a heated political debate emerged over demands to change the name of the Nizampur Municipal Corporation due to cultural discrepancies. Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, stated that the Gram Sabha has the authority to alter names, but Pawar condemned this as a diversion from more pressing issues facing the state.
