Robinhood is preparing to enter Indonesia’s rapidly expanding cryptocurrency market following agreements to acquire two local fintech firms.
In a statement released Sunday, the trading platform said it has signed deals to acquire Buana Capital, an Indonesian brokerage, and PT Pedagang Aset Kripto, a licensed digital asset trader. The move “marks our entry into one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing markets,” the company said.
Indonesia offers significant potential for Robinhood, with more than 19 million capital market investors and 17 million crypto investors — a combination the firm described as a “compelling market for equities and crypto trading.”
By purchasing an established brokerage, Robinhood gains immediate regulatory compliance and a foothold in the local market. Acquiring a licensed crypto platform, meanwhile, gives it a faster path to offering digital asset products.
“Indonesia represents a fast-growing market for trading, making it an exciting place to further Robinhood’s mission to democratize finance for all,” said Patrick Chan, Robinhood’s head of Asia.
Growing Crypto Adoption in Indonesia
Robinhood said it will continue serving Buana Capital customers with local financial products. “Over time, we hope to also offer Robinhood brokerage and crypto trading products and connect Indonesian customers to US equities, cryptocurrencies, and more at scale,” the company added.
The financial terms of the acquisitions were not disclosed, but the deals are expected to close in the first half of 2026.
Indonesia is considered one of the top crypto markets globally. Chainalysis ranks it seventh worldwide in its 2025 adoption index, making it the leading crypto market in Southeast Asia.
Crypto activity in the country has surged, with total transaction value tripling in 2024 to more than 650 trillion Indonesian rupiah ($39.7 billion), according to Reuters.

Robinhood Expands Into Prediction Markets
California-based Robinhood, which entered the European and UK markets in 2024, has been aggressively expanding through acquisitions in recent months.
The company moved into the rapidly growing prediction markets sector in November with the purchase of a firm previously linked to FTX. Robinhood noted at the time that prediction markets have quickly become one of its fastest-growing revenue-generating product lines.
