New Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards is known for his close working relationship with the players – so much so that Luton Town striker Carlton Morris turned to his former boss for transfer advice this summer.
Morris has left Luton to join Boro’s Championship rivals Derby County, ending a three-year spell at Kenilworth Road, which saw him star in the Premier League for the Hatters.
Edwards is fully focused on recamping the Middlesbrough squad ahead of next season’s promotion challenge, but had time to speak with Morris over his next move, something which the 29-year-old values.
“I think I’m entering the prime stage of my career as a striker now,” Morris said after signing a three-year deal with Derby.

“I spoke to Rob Edwards, who has told me how good Keith Downing is and that Matt Gardiner is exceptional to work with as well.
“They’re only going to make me a better player which is crucial as I’m at a place where I’m probably the most coachable I’ve been in my career and ready to kick on.
On Derby, Morris added: “It’s a massive club that I’ve heard a lot of good things about. When they came in for me, it was a bit of a no-brainer, really.
“The move is a big change, especially with my family. You want to know about the football club, about the area, and I’ve heard nothing but good. I’ve heard it’s a great family club, so I’m excited to get going.”
Morris admits it was tough to leave Luton, where he had enjoyed successful times, including scoring against Boro in 2023 as they booked their play-off spot.
“I loved it,” he added. “It’s emotional leaving them to be honest, but it’s a new chapter for me. I think it would be good for them to have some new faces in the door and, hopefully, they can kick on as well.”
