The growing wave of defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a clear vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and policy direction, according to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz.
Addressing a large crowd of APC supporters at a rally in Fagge, Kano, on Sunday, Abdulaziz said the president’s inclusive governance style has continued to attract politicians from across party lines and geopolitical zones.
“There is no political party in Nigeria today that symbolises unity like the APC,” he declared.
Abdulaziz noted that several governors from the South-South have aligned with the ruling party, while the APC is steadily expanding its influence in the South-East, predicting that more defections would follow in the coming months.
He dismissed the relevance of a newly formed opposition coalition, arguing that no sitting governor has joined the alliance, a development he said underscores the APC’s dominance in the current political landscape.
The presidential aide highlighted key economic and infrastructure initiatives under the Tinubu administration, including ongoing road and rail projects, compensation for communities affected by construction activities, and the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a production-side subsidy aimed at reducing transportation costs.
He cited the Sokoto-Badagry dual carriageway and extensive road construction across Northern states such as Kano, Niger and Katsina as evidence of the administration’s commitment to nationwide development.
According to him, the president’s reforms are structured to deliver long-term economic stability and shared prosperity, rather than short-term political gains.
Abdulaziz said the impact of government policies is gradually becoming visible, adding that many Nigerians are beginning to “smile again” as the dividends of democracy reach communities across the country.
