
LATEST data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed that, in mid-June, the average retail price of rice marginally dropped, while that of chicken went up.
Well-milled rice sold for P49.13 per kilogram (kg) in the second phase of this month (June 15-17), compared to P49.50/kg in the first phase (June 1 to 5). It was also lower than the P50.09/kg in the second phase of last month (May 15 to 17).
Dressed chicken retailed for P216.70/kg, higher than the P214.49/kg in the first phase of June. It was also higher than the P212.52/kg in mid-May.
Galunggong was also more expensive at P219.62/kg compared to P215.65/kg in the first week of June, but cheaper than P221.08/kg in mid-May.
Likewise, Baguio beans sold higher at P126.90/kg than the P117.96/kg and P115.79/kg in the same respective periods.

More significant was the spike in the price of red onions at P154.27/kg compared to P105.02/kg in early June, although its increase was not much than the P151.48/kg in mid-May.
However, calamansi sold lower at P95.54/kg than the P98.60/kg and the P101.51/kg. in the same respective periods.

Meanwhile, the price of cooking oil was higher at P181.46 per liter (L) than the P179.49/L in early June and the P177.83/L in mid-May.
