A resident reported Jan. 23 that he was scammed out of $150,000 when engaging in a bitcoin meeting online.
While sharing his computer screen, he believed that the suspect was able to take remote access and transfer the funds from his account.
Detectives are working with the FBI to investigate.
General assistance: West Hill Drive
A resident requested advice from an officer Jan. 17 regarding an issue involving the dismissal of a former employee.
911 call: Chartley Road
A 911 call came from a home in 1700 block Jan. 19, but was confirmed to have been made accidentally.
General assistance: Hawthorne Farms
An alert was received from a resident’s medical alarm pendant Jan. 20.
Officers confirmed that it was an accidental activation.
Animals: West Hill Drive
A motorist reported concern over the welfare of a dog after seeing it outside in the cold Jan. 21.
An officer went to the house and received no answer at the door, but saw that the dog was inside the home.
911 call: SOM Center Road
A 911 hang-up call from a cell phone came from the Gilmour Academy Ice Arena Jan. 23.
Dispatchers returned the call and learned that the person had called on behalf of her mother in Mayfield Heights.
Police from that agency had been contacted.
