Reported fraud offences have risen by 73 per cent in the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2024, garda statistics show.
Forgery and false instrument crimes have doubled, according to the latest provisional crime statistics.
Shopping and online auction fraud has surged by 166 per cent, money laundering by 88 per cent and bogus tradesmen by 57 per cent.
Compared to the first half of last year, accommodation fraud was 22 per cent higher and there were 18 per cent more take over fraud offences reported.
However, there has been a reduction in counterfeit notes and coins by 88 per cent, phishing by 26 per cent and insurance fraud by 45 per cent.
The number of reported sexual offences has also risen. There were four per cent more reports of rape and seven per cent more reports of sexual assault.
There was a decline of 16 per cent of reports relating to child sexual abuse material and related offences.
Many reported offences were down across the board, including aggravated burglary (-25 per cent), robbery (-24 per cent) and criminal damage (-14 per cent).
