Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla has assured the public that the government is ramping up efforts to enhance safety and security in light of the Philippines’ growing tourism industry.
Speaking at the 3rd Hotel Sales and Marketing Association (HSMA) Sales and Marketing Summit, Remulla emphasized the Marcos administration’s commitment to supporting peace and order as a cornerstone of sustainable tourism development.
“For the next few months and years, we’ve invested heavily to make the country one of the safest in the world,” he said during his speech on the impact of government policies on the hospitality sector.
As part of the broader initiative, Remulla highlighted the revitalization of the national 911 Emergency System, which is set to be fully operational by July 2025 in key areas including Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao. The upgraded system aims to drastically improve response times in emergencies.
Additionally, the government plans to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras across the country, targeting one camera per 1,000 square meters. The DILG is also procuring more patrol vehicles for Metro Manila, aiming for a five-minute emergency response time.
He also called on stakeholders in the hospitality and tourism industries to work hand-in-hand with the government in maintaining safety and order, which he said is essential for sustaining the momentum of tourism recovery and growth.
“We have to work together,” he said. “We are committed to making the Republic of the Philippines a better and safer Philippines.”
