Rebekah Vardy has alleged she was “treated worse than a paedophile” for her role in the infamous Wagatha Christie court case. The 43 year old famously lost the high profile libel trial in 2022 after claims were made by fellow WAG, Coleen Rooney.
Rebekah, who is married to former Leicester City striker and current Rangers transfer ‘target’ Jamie Vardy, is keen to move past her dispute with Coleen and is now paying her £1.4M in legal costs following a court order. However, the way she was treated throughout the trial is something that she still believes was highly unfair, claiming she “got the raw end of that”.
The former I’m A Celebrity star even went as far to compare her treatment to the way criminals are dealt with. She told Vanity Fair: “In fact, I think murderers and paedophiles have faced far less scrutiny than I did.” Throughout the court case, a lot of focus was given to the outfits worn by Rebekah and Coleen, with many fashion experts hailing Coleen as the more stylish of the two.
Rebekah insisted to Vanity Fair that she deliberately does not conform to the typical WAG style, Leicestershire Live reports.
She said: “I am polar opposite to what you would class as the typical WAG. I’m not bothered.
“I will go out head to toe in Zara where someone else’s wife or girlfriend has to be head to toe in Prada.”
A judge ruled in May that Rebekah must pay over £1.4M towards Coleen’s legal fees following their libel battle.
Coleen, who is married to football icon Wayne Rooney, racked up a legal bill totalling more than £1.8M while successfully defending herself against Mrs Vardy’s High Court claim in 2022.
After Vardy lost the case, court documents unveiled that she had been ordered to pay 9- per cent of Coleen’s costs.
On Tuesday June 17, a specialist costs court heard that Rebekah Vardy had agreed to pay Coleen £1.19M towards legal costs, with Coleen also demanding an additional £315,000 for “assessment costs”.
Costs judge Mark Whalan branded it “reasonable and proportionate” for Rebekah to dish out an extra £212,266, bringing the total amount payable to just over £1.4m, inclusive of interest.
The Wagatha Christie saga began when Coleen sensationally accused Rebekah of leaking confidential stories about her to the press.
Coleen famously declared on her social media: “It’s ……….Rebekah Vardy’s account.”

Despite continuously denying she was responsible, Rebekah lost the case following High Court judge Mrs Justice Steyn’s ruling that Coleen’s claim was “substantially true”.
Rebekah and Coleen had been good friends before their falling out, even attending football matches together in ‘twinning outfits’ to cheer on their husbands.
However, despite years of running in the same circles with their husbands being teammates, Coleen later told the Times that her relationship with Rebekah had always felt “unnatural”.
