The Rangers’ roster is expected to look a little different after Friday’s trade deadline, but the roster already took a hit Tuesday when the team placed captain J.T. Miller on injured reserve with an upper-body injury suffered in Monday’s 5-4 overtime loss to Columbus.
A source said the injury was different from the one that Miller has been managing for most of the season. The Rangers did not identify what the injury was, but Miller was wrestled to the ice by Columbus defenseman Erik Gudbranson in the third period. While he was lying on the ice, he was hit in the back of the helmet by a shot from teammate Will Borgen, a few seconds before Borgen scored the Rangers’ third goal of the game with 7:08 left.
Miller did finish the game and was in the locker room afterward for postgame media interviews.
The Rangers called up two forwards from AHL Hartford, Jaroslav Chmelar and Juuso Parssinen, and assigned forward Brendan Brisson and defenseman Scott Morrow to Hartford. The moves leave them with 22 active players on the roster, one below the limit.
